Staying in Urb. El Paraíso (Benahavís) puts you in one of the Costa del Sol’s densest golf clusters. You do not need a long transfer to play. Several strong courses sit within a short drive of the apartment, and the nearest (El Paraíso Golf Club) is practically on your doorstep.
This guide is for guests: which courses to prioritise, how far they feel by car, how to book, and how to combine a round with dinner in Benahavís pueblo. Green fees change by season, so always confirm current rates with the club or your booking channel.
Why El Paraíso works as a golf base
- Short hops between apartment, fairways and coast
- Choice: parkland classics, hillier layouts, and multi-course clubs nearby
- Evenings: Benahavís village is famous for restaurants, ideal after a late tee time
- Car recommended: see our car rental guide if you are still deciding
Courses within easy reach (guest shortlist)
| Course | Drive (approx.) | Why guests like it |
|---|---|---|
| El Paraíso Golf Club (Gary Player, 1973) | A few minutes | Closest home course, walkable parkland feel, visitors welcome |
| Atalaya Golf | ~10-15 min | Convenient coastal-side option between Estepona and San Pedro |
| Guadalmina Golf (North / South) | ~10-15 min | Two championship loops near San Pedro, easy beach combo day |
| Los Arqueros (Seve Ballesteros) | ~15-20 min | Hillier Benahavís layout with memorable views |
| La Quinta | ~15-25 min | 27 holes, flexible for mixed groups |
Times are indicative from Urb. El Paraíso in light traffic. Add buffer in peak season and for first visits (parking, check-in, warm-up).
Other golf courses near Marbella
The shortlist above keeps you close to the apartment. If you have a few days, these golf courses are worth a longer drive or a special round. Times are rough guides from Urb. El Paraíso in clear traffic.
Los Naranjos Golf Club (Nueva Andalucía)
About 15 km east, roughly 20 minutes. A classic Robert Trent Jones Sr. layout that opened in 1977, with wide fairways, large rolling greens and water in play. The name comes from the orange grove that stood on the land.
Marbella Club Golf Resort (Benahavís)
Close by, up the Benahavís road (the club gives its address as km 3.7), so allow about 15 minutes. An 18 hole course by Dave Thomas in the hills, with sea views toward Gibraltar and the African coast on a clear day. The club asks for a handicap (28 for men, 36 for ladies) and lists tee times from about 09:00 to 13:00.
La Cala Resort (Mijas)
About 40 km east, so allow 40 to 50 minutes. Three 18 hole courses by Cabell B. Robinson (Campo America, Campo Asia and Campo Europa) plus a 9 hole par 3 course. The resort describes Europa as the most forgiving and Asia as the one that asks for the most precision, which makes it a good pick for a mixed group or a multi round day trip.
Real Club Valderrama (Sotogrande)
About 42 km west, roughly 40 to 45 minutes. Another Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, and the host of the 1997 Ryder Cup, the first one played outside the British Isles. It is a private members' club: visitor tee times are limited to around midday from Monday to Thursday, a forecaddie is compulsory, the dress code is strict and the green fee is at the very top end. Book well ahead and check the current rules on the club's own site.
Start here: El Paraíso Golf Club
If you only play one course during your stay, make it this one. Designed by Gary Player and open since the early 1970s, it sits in the El Paraíso valley with a friendly visitor culture. Green-fee players are part of daily life, not an afterthought.
- 18 holes, parkland style with trees, bunkers and water in play
- Clubhouse / terrace for coffee or a late lunch
- Pro shop, range, buggy and trolley hire commonly available
- Club hire exists for travellers without bags. Book ahead in busy weeks
Practical tip: October to May is the busy golf season on the Costa del Sol. Summer is quieter on the tee sheet but hotter midday, so early starts help.
We do not list fixed green fees here because they move by date and package. Check the club or a reputable tee-time platform before you travel.
Building a 3-5 night golf stay
- Day 1. Arrive and a local round: El Paraíso Golf Club after check-in if your flight allows
- Day 2. Contrast course: Los Arqueros or La Quinta for a different look and feel
- Day 3. Coast combo: Guadalmina or Atalaya, then San Pedro / beach time
- Evening ritual: shower at the apartment, then dinner in Benahavís pueblo (reserve weekends)
Non-golfers in the group can use pool mornings, beach afternoons, or the village while you play.
Booking tips that actually matter
- Book tee times before you fly in autumn and spring. Leave more flexibility in deep summer
- Bring or email a handicap certificate if clubs ask (common on the Costa)
- Confirm buggy vs walking. Some days and temperatures make a buggy worth it
- Ask about shared buggy and club-hire stock when you reserve
- Societies and groups: email the pro shop early. Weekends fill first
What to pack (apartment-friendly)
- Soft spikes / golf shoes, rain layer for winter fronts, light layers for evenings inland
- Sunscreen even in January. Winter sun is strong
- If flying without clubs: confirm hire model (left/right, set of irons) 48+ hours ahead
After the round: Benahavís pueblo
One of the best parts of basing here is finishing the day properly. Benahavís village (often called the dining room of the Costa del Sol) is a short drive inland from the urbanisation. It works well for grilled meats, tapas, or a longer celebration dinner. Park once, walk the white streets, and take your time.
Do you need a car?
For a true golf week: yes, usually. Taxi works for a single round at El Paraíso Golf Club, but hopping between Los Arqueros, La Quinta and Guadalmina gets expensive and inflexible. Details in Car rental in Benahavís.
Ready to book the apartment?
Want fairways, a quiet green urbanisation and Marbella / Estepona within easy reach? Check availability for our El Paraíso Benahavís apartment on the homepage, then lock your tee times.
Play well. See you between the bunkers and the pueblo.
